This brand new, in-box SuperMicro SuperServer AS-3015MR-H8TNR is a high-density 3U rackmount server designed around Supermicro's MicroClould architecture. It boasts a high amount of compute density, containing 8 independent server nodes in a single 3U chassis, each one having 4 DDR5 DIMM slots and a socket for a single AMD EPYX 4004/4005 processor on the AM5 platform. This allows for an excellent cost per node, avoiding the cost of larger EPYC 9004/9005 server CPUs while still offering ECC memory support, high clock speeds, PCIe Gen5 connectivity, and up to 16 cores per node. Additionally, this system has direct NVMe support, with two LFF drive bays and an M.2 slot for each node, allowing for very fast local storage performance.
On top of the benefits of density from essentially being eight, separate efficient AMD servers in one chassis, the H8TNR provides great power efficiency and cheaper operation cost compared to running eight separate 1U servers. The isolation of each node from one another means that one node crashing will not affect the others, and each node can potentially run a sperate OS, or have entirely separate workloads running simultaneously. This system's density, power efficiency, and node independence make it ideal for hosting providers, cloud services, edge computing, and virtualization, where density and operational efficiency would matter more than maximum performance per server.
